FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LIFE Foundation to Coordinate Industry-Wide Disability Insurance Awareness Month Campaign in May
Washington, D.C. ‘ January 10 ‘ The LIFE Foundation today announced that it will coordinate an industry-wide campaign in May to get Americans thinking more about their need for disability insurance protection.
"Becoming disabled and not being able to work is one of the greatest financial risks people face, but most Americans aren‘t aware of the risk and lack adequate protection against it," said David F. Woods, CLU, ChFC, president of LIFE. "The best way to get Americans to focus on this important issue is by coming together as an industry in a coordinated fashion, and that‘s what we hope to accomplish in May."
LIAM as the Blueprint
Disability Insurance Awareness Month (DIAM) is the second public awareness campaign that LIFE will sponsor on an annual basis. Since , LIFE has coordinated Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM) each September. LIAM has generated significant industry support, with more than 100 companies and national trade associations participating in the campaign in each of the past two years.
"In many respects, the LIAM campaign provides us with a blueprint for mounting another successful public education campaign, this time in support of disability awareness," said Mr. Woods. "A number of the major players in the disability business have been urging us to launch this initiative, and we feel that the industry support will be there to make Disability Insurance Awareness Month a success."
DIAM Planning Tools to be Made Available
In the coming weeks, LIFE plans to distribute a DIAM Planning Toolkit to help companies and other industry groups prepare for the campaign. The toolkit will include a DIAM logo, turnkey materials to help raise awareness of the campaign within the industry, and a menu of tactics to help companies plan their public outreach efforts.
In addition to the coordinating role it will play, LIFE plans to support the awareness campaign by conducting aggressive outreach to the consumer media, posting special features on disability insurance on its web site and blog, and releasing new marketing tools to help producers better educate their clients about disability insurance.
The Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education (LIFE) was founded in response to the public‘s growing need for information and education on life, disability, long-term care and health insurance. LIFE also seeks to remind people of the important role insurance professionals perform in helping families, businesses and individuals find the insurance products that best fit their needs.
